About the project:

The Hemp Chutka overcoat is a garment inspired by the traditional weft-pile Tibetan sheep- wool blankets, known as Chutka in Uttarakhand, made by the shepherds of the Bhotiya community of the Himalayas.

The Chutka overcoat is a contemporary adaptation of this unique hand-woven textile through the technique of hand knitting by the women artisans at Almora (a town located at the southern edge of the Kumaon Hills of the Himalayan range in Uttarakhand). This weaving technique has been re-interpreted through hand knitting using an amalgamation of various materials.
